NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – WAVY News 10 has learned eight additional Head Start centers in Hampton Roads will re-open on Monday.
They include the Antioch, Azalea Garden, and Oakmont centers in Norfolk, the Edith R. Jones and Geneva Square centers in Chesapeake, the Hayden center in Franklin, the centers in Southampton County and Smithfield.
It was announced earlier in the week that the Atlantis center in Virginia Beach, the Churchland and Carver centers in Chesapeake, the Emily Spong center in Portsmouth, the Calvert Square center in Norfolk, and the Cavalier center in Portsmouth would also re-open on March 28.
Head Start centers closed down on February 28 after the managing company, the STOP Organization, allegedly mis-managed federal funds and failed to meet the payroll. STOP lost the program, and it was given to the Community Development Institute (CDI).
As CDI obtains the necessary licenses, all the 32 previously closed centers are scheduled to re-open.
